Shepherd’s Renewal Leadership Development

“Self-knowledge is so important that, even if you were raised right up to the heavens, I should like you to never relax your cultivation of it…we shall never succeed in knowing ourselves unless we seek to know God.”

-St. Teresa of Avila

Priests are the spiritual marines, leading the Church through the trenches of spiritual battle. Like any great leader, priests need ongoing formation to build self-knowledge, identify blind spots, and continue to develop strengths. Shepherd’s Renewal is a tailored approach to leadership development designed specifically with priests in mind.

Unlike a leadership class, a Shepherd’s Renewal retreat provides:

  • Tailored to the needs of your diocese or religious order: The theme of the retreat is customized to address what is important to you. Examples of retreat themes include: “Blind spots, Boundaries,” and “Burnout, Better Man, Better Priest,” “All I Really Need to Know about Management I (Didn’t) Learn in Seminary.”
  • Personalized formation: Retreats are kept small. One psychologist will work with a group of no more than six priests, who spends time up front with the priest to build rapport and develop goals.
  • Expert assessment: One aspect of the retreat will be an evaluation of a priest’s personality as it relates to leadership. St. Raphael’s uses the very best tools specifically chosen to illuminate one’s psychological makeup as it relates to the theme of the retreat.
  • We’ll Come to You! A St. Raphael clinician can travel to you to run the two-day retreat.
